We have Thomas Culhane, born circa  1844 and died on  Feb 3rd, 1907 at Killeaney, Glin.   aged  63 years, his daughter Mary Culhane present at his death.  Thomas Culhane’s father was Michael Culhane, born circa 1810. According to Irish Genealogy all the Culhane’s were born in Killeaney. I was told that Thomas Culhane got the farm in Turraree from some lady relative, he died at Killeaney but his wife Deborah died at Turraree. Family from Thomas M. Culhane & Deborah Barrett, 12 as follows –

1.Mary Culhane, born May 10th, 1871, Killeaney, Glin. Minnin in the Census. Some of the ages don’t match up but that’s no surprise.

2.Michael John Culhane born  June 20th, 1872, Killeaney, Glin. Married Mary ‘Minnie’Moll’ O’Connor above. He was known as Michael T. Culhane when he died at Turraree on March 5th, 1956. Culhane Michael, Turraree, Glin married Mary “Minnie/Moll” O’Connor, (daughter of Thomas O’Connor & Mary Sheahan) born on Nov 11th. 1881, Ballyguiltenane, Glin,   died on May 18th, 1945, Turraree, Glin,  aged 63 years. On Feb 20th, 1912 at Glin church, Mary married Michael Culhane of Turraree, Glin, son of Thomas M. Culhane & Deborah Barrett, the witnesses being William Dillane & Bridget O’Connor. On Feb 27th, 1870 at Moyvane church, Thomas M. Culhane married Deborah Barrett, the witnesses being Michael Carmody, Court & John Stack, Newtownsandes. Deborah Barrett was born circa 1849 in the townland of Moher, Parish of Murher, Moyvane, Co. Kerry, died Jan 13th, 1940, Turraree, Glin, aged 91 years. The Kerry Parish Records gives her marriage address as Leitrim, Moyvane. Deborah’s father was James Barrett, Griffith’s valuation of 1847-1864 have two James Barrett’s in Moher, one of whom was Deborah’s father. Deborah may have had a brother Patrick Barrett who on January 26th, 1867 married Mary Stack from Leitrim, daughter of John Stack, the witnesses being – James Barrett & John Stack. (James Barrett born circa 1831 and died circa 1901 aged 70 years. not verified.) Michael Culhane died a widower on March 5th, 1956, aged 82 years, his son James ‘Jimmy’ Culhane present at his death in Turraree Lower. Family from Michael Culhane & Mary ‘Minnie/Moll’ O’Connor, 6 as follows –

i.Thomas “Tom” Culhane,  born on Aug 7th, 1913, Turraree. Thomas emigrated to England and died there in  1962  aged 48 years.

ii.Mary Culhane,  born on  Oct 26th, 1915, Turraree, died on  Aug 5th, 2001,   aged 85 years. Mary married Bill Hayes, Fairystreet, Templeathea, Athea. Mary was in my mother’s class at Ballyguiltenane National School.

iii.James “Jimmy” Culhane,   born on  Oct 19th, 1916, Turraree, died on June 27th, 1991, Turraree,   (Age 74 years) Jim married Mary White from Gortnagross area of Athea.

iv.Patrick “Pat” Culhane,  born on  May 9th, 1918, Turraree, died on  July  28th, 1996  aged 78 years. Pat was married  twice, his first wife was Eileen O’Leary from Kilmeedy, Co.Limerick. Pat went to live in Kilmeedy. Pat’s 2nd marriage was to his cousin  Kit Barrett from Moher, west of Moyvane, Co. Kerry, same Barrett as his grandmother Deborah.

v.Canon Michael Culhane,  born on  Oct 20th, 1920, Turraree, died  March 2010, Liverpool, Lancashire, England   aged 89 years. Culhane Canon Michael, Golden Jubilee Mass in Glin on June 20th, 1996. Photo Weekly Observer June 26th, 1996.

vi.Daniel “Dan” Culhane, born circa 1928, Turraree, Glin, died on June 16th, 2004, Rathreagh, Clonagh, Limerick,   aged  76 years. Dan married Nora Flaherty from the ‘Hill’ Tullyleague….Dan acquired the farm of his uncle Patrick (Paddy) Culhane in Killeaney. He went down there and looked after Nell Wallace Culhane following the death of her husband Patrick (Paddy) Culhane. Dan later gave this farm to the Land Commission in exchange for another farm in Cahermoyle, Ardagh, Co. Limerick.

3.James Culhane, born circa  1873, Killeaney, Glin.

4.Patrick (Paddy) Culhane, born on March 16th, 1875, Killeaney, Glin. On Feb 20th, 1920, at Tarbert church, Patrick married Ellen (Nell) Wallace, daughter of John Wallace, a farmer from Tarmons, Co. Kerry, the witnesses being – William Dillane & Anastacia Culhane. They had one girl in family Mary Brigid Culhane who I believe went to Northern Ireland and married William (Willie) Crockett there. Dan acquired the farm of his uncle Patrick (Paddy) Culhane in Killeaney. It is of the belief that he went down there and looked after Nell Wallace Culhane following the death of her husband Patrick (Paddy) Culhane. Dan later gave this farm to the Land Commission in exchange for another farm in Cahermoyle, Ardagh, Co. Limerick.

5.Catherine Theresa Culhane,  born on March 31st, 1877, Killeaney, Glin and died on Dec 16th,1948 at Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, United States   aged 71 years.

6.Daniel Culhane, born on April 11th, 1878, Killeaney, Glin.

7.Thomas Culhane, born on April 4th, 1880 at Killeaney, Glin.

8.David Culhane, born circa 1882, Killeaney, Glin.

9.Ellen Culhane, born April 10th, 1885, Killeaney Glin.

10.John Culhane,   born Sept 21st, 1889, Killeaney, Glin.
