We have Timothy Flaherty born circa1867. On Feb 14th, 1889 at Athea church this Timothy Flaherty aged 22 years, a labourer, son of John Flaherty, Knockfinnisk, Athea, married Johanna King aged 22 years, daughter of labourer P.K. King, Glenagower, Athea, the witnesses being James Lynch and Hanora King. Timothy Flaherty and Johanna King had a family of 10 born alive, 7 of whom survived, listed hereunder –
Mary Flaherty born on Jan 6th, 1890 at Glenagower, Athea. (Spelled Glenagour on birth cert). Mary Flaherty married Thomas Geoghegan as follows – Thomas Geoghegan (1889). (son of Patrick Geoghegan & Hanora Normoyle) Family listed on 1901 and 1911 census. Tom was 6ft 6ins in height and was anchor-man on the Glin tug-of-war team. On Nov 8th 1913 at Athea church, Thomas Geoghegan married Mary Flaherty from Dromreask, (Blaine) Glin, daughter of Timothy Flaherty the witnesses being John Flaherty, Dromreask and Mary Reidy, Glasha, Athea. (By now the some of the Flaherty’s had moved to Dromreask) Thomas’ age given as 25 years and Mary aged 24 years. (Mary Reidy, who was only 13 years of age at the time would later marry Bill Walshe, Tullyleague, Glin. She was the daughter of Nellie Reidy whose mother was Mary Higgins, Glasha.) Mary Flaherty Geoghegan died Sept 2nd 1922, her husband Thomas present at her death in Glin. Thomas died 1925 leaving 6 children orphaned one of whom was Mary Geoghegan born June 2nd 1915 and another was Michael Geoghegan who was the father of Patricia Geoghegan George. Another one of the children would appear to be Patrick Geoghegan who was born on May 24th 1914 at Dromreask, Johanna Flaherty present at the birth. . (Blaine is a local name and has been given on several birth, marriage and death certs.)
Michael Flaherty born on April 9th, 1891 at Templeathea, Athea. A Michael Flaherty age 22 years, address given as Athea, died on June 13th, 1913 at Croughatoosane Hospital, Listowel from Morbus Cordis. Almost sure this is Michael, son of Timothy.
Catherine Flaherty born on July 19th, 1893 at Templeathea, Athea. On Feb 16th, 1915 at Glin church Catherine Flaherty married John Sheehy, a labourer from Ballyculhane, Glin, son of John Sheehy, the witnesses being Jeremiah Sheehy and Margaret Reidy.
John (Jack) Flaherty born on Oct 21st, 1896 at Dromada, Athea. On Jan 30th, 1932 at Athea church, John (Jack) Flaherty married Johanna (Jane) Mulvihill, daughter of Michael Mulvihill, Glasha, Athea, the witnesses being John Carroll and Ellie Mulvihill. Johanna (Jane) was an aunt to the late Paudie Mulvihill, (Undertaker) Glasha and to Michael (Mickey) Mulvihill who was married to Peg Lynch, Blaine. Johanna (Jane) Flaherty died on Nov 28th, 1985. I knew her well.
Patrick Flaherty born on Sept 25th, 1898 at Clounleharde, Athea. Died March 24th, 1902 from intestinal worms, 12 hours, no medical attendant.
James Flaherty born on June 22nd, 1901 at Dirreen, Athea. On Feb 7th, 1931 at Glin church, James Flaherty aged 30 years, married Mary O’Shaughnessy aged 22 years, from Flean, Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick, daughter of John O’Shaughnessy farmer, the witnesses being Pat Mulvihill and Bridie O’Shaughnessy. James Flaherty’s father Timothy listed as being deceased. James and Mary’s son James Flaherty ran in the Dublin City Marathon in 1987.
Patrick Flaherty born on Aug 28th, 1905 at Dirreen, Athea. (2nd, Patrick to be born) On June 21st, 1927 at Ashford church, Co. Limerick, Patrick Flaherty married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Drew from Glenduff, Monagea, Co. Limerick, a housekeeper, daughter of Cornelius Drew, the witnesses being Nora Drew and James Flaherty. Their son Timothy Flaherty who was married to Anne Cardwell from Glenavy, Co. Antrim lived in the first cottage after the bend on the Blaine/Glin road.

Mary Flaherty who married Sonny Moroney Monemohill, Ballyhahill, formerly of Templeathea, Athea. Mary died on Sunday Aug 18th, 2019, pre-deceased by her husband Sonny on Dec 1st, 2007 and also by her son Michael. They had another son and daughter in family.
Timothy Flaherty died on June 10th, 1982. Anna Cardwell Flaherty died on Sat March 22nd, 2014. Timothy and Anna had two sons and three daughters in family.
Johanna (Hannah) Flaherty born on Aug 11th, 1909 at Dirreen, Athea. On May 28th, 1935 at Glin church Johanna (Hannah) Flaherty, age given as 27 years, married Bill (Billeen) Mulvihill, Glasha, Athea, age given as 32 years, the witnesses being James Flaherty and Mary Sheehy. Billeen was a brother of Johanna (Jane) Mulvihill above. They had a brother Padden Mulvihill who was married to Nonie Brick, Coole, Athea, parents of the aforementioned Paudie & Mickey Mulvihill.
